I cook for my dogs. I've been overwhelmed by commercial dog food reports and recalls. Plus the expense of "healthy dog food." It just doesn't make sense to me.. So, I cook for them. Basically, I serve them protein, consisting of hamburger, or chicken, and beans, a starch, e.g., rice or sweet potatoes, and vegetables. I've researched information to be certain that I was serving them well balanced meals, but what I find is a confusing.So, the proof is in the poop. And I have found that cooking for my dogs pleases them. And they poop less, and the excrement is more solid and seemingly more healthy. So, I cook for my dogs, because it's better for them.
This book by Gordon Rock, " . . . Homemade Dog Food" is very much how I cook for my dogs. I read it and I use it as a reference because it's sensible. And it's a good thing to do. Love my dogs. Karen

While recipes are good there is no nutritional value or calorie count stated for any meals which gives you no idea how much to feed your dog.
But unfortunately author didn't review recipes and there are things missing to make it useful. One of the recipes states "bake in the oven". That's it, no time or temperature given so you're left guessing. Another recipe calls for egg (eggs?)but eggs are not listed in ingredients and there is no quantity given. Same with turkey recipe - use turkey? How much? Who knows... I don't doubt author loves dogs, but good luck trying to cook from this "cookbook"
