Once you finally get out of jail and find where ever they hid your car from you more nasty things happen to you. Yea you got the court date and need to get an attorney . If you are broke, you will be given a public defender (good luck) .
Then there is the wonderful realization that you have no license now! Depending on how many DUIs/DWIs you have had, what you do before court could make the difference between being free or in prison.
The average defendant/offender has no idea what they need to do in order to help their "case" Depending on your attorney, the advice you get on what to do in order to get ready for your day in court will range from excellent to non existent.
Naturally if you have the money for a high powered legal team, your chances for a favorable outcome are probably better. Keep in mind some high priced attorneys will simply advise you to take a plea bargain and run.
Of course this is easier for them and they can also impress upon you how lucky you are to get this plea bargain and that they had to do a tremendous amount of behind the scenes work to get it! The bottom line is that you the defendant or offender are going to be the person standing in front of the judge and you will also be the person who will receive the court"s judgement be it good or bad.
The truth of the matter is that there are some things a person can do who is facing a DUI/DWI that might help their case. Now then if the defendant/offender is lucky enough to have an attorney who is on the ball and cares enough, they may be given some solid advice.
The sad fact is that many times the person facing the charges is just another client with a DUI/DWI and they "blast" them through the legal system like they did the last twenty clients. Bottom line is that it may be good to be proactive and start doing things that can help you in court. This is especially true if you have had multiple DUIs/DWIs and you are facing jail or prison time.
